Upcoming Events

Hi guys - there are a few things people have asked me to help spread the word about, so even though they're on the calendar, I'll make a quick plug for them here too.

Thursday, 28 Oct: Island Xpressions will be having their usual poetry, singing, and general talent on display but this time will be teaming up with the Ministry of Tourism so will have added performances. We had a lot of fun with this the last time we went, so can imagine this one will be even more entertaining. Located upstairs of the MaPau Casino in Port Zante (in a lounge room within Sweet Lime). Cost $20EC (about $8US) Be seated by 8 for 8:30pm start. This will get crowded, so if you want to go, get there early. Drinks and snacks can be purchased.

Friday, 29 Oct: Shipwreck will be having a Halloween party on Friday night. Drink specials start at 8pm (although it's open all day if you want to eat or something) and prizes will be given out at midnight. This will be people-watching at its best! So if you're looking for a night out, dress up and see if you can scare up some prize money!

Sunday, 31 Oct: If you've got a boat or want to crew on one, sign up for the 1st annual St Kitts Yacht Club October Challenge Sailing Regatta. Starting at 10am, you'll start off at Timothy Beach, then out to round Smarty (the big cargo boat), then into South Friars to round a buoy close to Shipwreck. Its then off down the coast, beat up the channel, sail around a few rocks, and into Cockleshell for the finish. The fleet should be in sight of Reggae beach bar by around 1. Obviously this is subject to change due to weather, hangover or general mood swings. If interested contact Matt via Facebook or me via the blog Contact button. Mr. X's powercat Shiggidy X-Press will be the committee boat and he will be taking on anyone who wants to cheer the crews on (space is limited, obviously). Details on that option are forthcoming.

Sunday, 31 Oct: If you don't have a boat or just prefer to stay on land, you might want to take part in the Halloween festivities at Beaumont Park. I'm not sure if they'll dress up their thoroughbred horses for the occasion, but if you do you just might win some prizes. This is a family affair with games, horse racing (no betting), food, drink, and entertainment. ADULTS 13 & OVER - EC$10 (about $4US)/CHILDREN 12 & UNDER PAY EC$5. Kids under 12 get a free bag of candy while they last! Gates open at 12:30pm. Races start at 2:30pm and end at 5:30pm.

fireworkes Friday, 5 Nov: Come celebrate Guy Fawkes Day at Mr. X's Shiggidy Shack. There will be a Heineken promotion (2 for 1?) and Fireworks! after dark, so come on down.

This is also the kick-off for a series of three triathlons starting at the Shack...

That's right - did you know that there used to be a major triathlon held on St. Kitts annually? It was sanctioned by the International Triathlon Union and Olympians were actually given credits to participate. Somewhere along the way, the event disappeared (I think the last one was in 2004), but the Triathlon Association is staging a comeback!

Saturday, 6 Nov: The Mini Triathlon Series Fall Classic brought to you by the St Kitts Triathlon Association starts with a quickie beginning at 4pm at Mr. X's Shiggidy Shack: 250m swim, 10km bike, 3km run. Entrance fee is $50 EC (about $20US) per person or $150 EC (about $60US) per team, which includes a T-shirt and entrance into all races. Pre-register by email at stkittstri@gmail.com or contact the Race Director @ 1-869-762-1804.

The next mini triathlon in the series will be Saturday, 20 Nov and will be a little harder: 450m swim, 15km bike, 4km run.

The final mini triathlon event will take place on Saturday 11 Dec upping the ante to: 600m swim, 20km bike, 5km run. If you're really into this kind of thing, Nevis has a triathlon club too.

So there! I think there's just about something for everybody there.
