Crime update

It turns out there was another event on The Strip recently that a reader placed in my blog comments. It turns out that the crime details have been sent to other islanders via email as well, but unsurprisingly I'm not finding squat about it in any paper yet. Here it is word for word from the comment section: UPDATE: 2 weeks later SKNVibes finally picked up the story. You'll note that it was Ross Security who found the car, not the police...

****CARJACKING*****!!!!!!
This weekend, two fifth semesters were CARJACKED. They were pulling out of their parking space at Kathy's around midnight on Friday. A guy wearing a bandana on his face reached through the window and pulled the driver out of the car. He then drove off with the other girl still in the car. She put up a gigantic fight, managing to kick him in the head and face multiple times. By the time they got to the round a bout by Buddies, she had managed to keep slipping the car into neutral and park all while kicking him and screaming. Some Rossies were nearby and heard the screams and managed to get her out of the car. The guy drove off and got away. They ended up finding the car last night, but it was destroyed. The police think it was a guy being initiated into a gang. Please, please, please be careful and mind your surroundings!

I understand that the government and others want to keep crimes on the island under wraps in order to keep tourism numbers up, but it's incredibly unfair not to warn us of two pretty nasty events in the same area within 1 week (one against tourists, the other against students). It's also rather reprehensible that the police haven't stepped up patrols in the area at the very least. The criminals get free reign and the rest of us are left in the dark, unable to take appropriate measures to avoid becoming victims. Many bars do have security, so you might want to ask them to walk you to your car or taxi. We're definitely trying to be more observant. I have to admit, I'd feel a bit better if I could tote a taser...or an Uzi...
